Abra Health Group has launched The Dental Bank, a new community impact initiative designed to make essential oral health resources more accessible to individuals and families throughout Connecticut. The initiative builds on Abra Health Group’s presence across the state through its All About Kids and Presto Dental practices.
The Dental Bank was introduced at the recent grand opening of Presto Dental’s Bridgeport location. The initiative is currently being piloted across Abra Health Group’s Connecticut network, including Presto Dental in Bridgeport and Norwalk and All About Kids in Danbury, Derby, Norwalk and Stamford, with plans to expand to communities across New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the near future.
“Good oral health starts with access – access to the information, basic supplies and care people need to protect their health,” said Dr. Michael Skolnick, orthodontist, CEO and co-founder of Abra Health Group. “With The Dental Bank, we’re taking a broader approach to prevention by bringing those resources beyond the dental office and into the communities we serve. We’re proud to launch this initiative in Connecticut and look forward to helping more people take an active role in their oral health.”
Through partnerships with local schools, nonprofits and community organizations, The Dental Bank will provide free toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss and other oral health essentials, preliminary screenings performed by licensed staff, practical education and resources to help individuals and families connect with high-quality, affordable dental care.
The initiative comes at a time when common dental problems remain widespread. Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease among children and adults in the United States. Half of children ages 6-9 have experienced cavities, while one in five adults ages 20-64 has untreated tooth decay. Across the country, approximately 34 million school hours are lost each year due to unplanned dental care.
“Oral care is important,” said Dr. Elizabeth Rivera-Rodriguez, Director of Health and Social Services for the City of Bridgeport. “When children don’t have access to great oral care, they are more susceptible to illness and infections that can impact their education and how they learn.”
The Dental Bank builds on Abra Health Group’s broader commitment to making quality dental care more accessible. All About Kids and Presto Dental provide pediatric dentistry, family dentistry and orthodontic care across their Connecticut locations and accept and prioritize Medicaid patients insured through HUSKY Dental.
