Medford Klamath Falls, OR, October 13, 2026 — Jackson County 911 announced the completion of a significant upgrade to its public safety radio system. This enhancement is designed to improve communication capabilities for emergency personnel operating within Jackson County.

The project extends benefits beyond the immediate county borders, aiming to bolster communication for first responders working in Crater Lake National Park. Additionally, the upgraded system is expected to enhance connectivity for public safety officials in parts of five other Southern Oregon counties.

The comprehensive upgrade focused on modernizing the existing infrastructure to ensure more reliable and robust communication channels. Such systems are critical for coordinating responses during emergencies, including natural disasters, medical incidents, and public safety events. The improvements are intended to provide clearer audio, better coverage, and increased capacity, which are essential for the effectiveness of police, fire, and medical services.

The specific details of the technology implemented or the timeline for the upgrade’s full rollout were not provided. The contractor responsible for the upgrade was also not identified in the announcement.

The upgrade represents a substantial investment in the region’s emergency response infrastructure. Enhanced radio communication is vital for inter-agency coordination, ensuring that all responding units can share critical information seamlessly, regardless of their location within the service area. This includes areas with challenging terrain, such as those found in national parks and surrounding rural regions.
